Ayushman Bharat Yojana (PMJAY):
ABY is also known as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) which is a public welfare scheme to provide health facilities to economically weaker section of the society who need healthcare facilities.
On 23 September 2018 The Prime Minister rolled out a health insurance scheme to provide needy people healthcare facilities. About 50 crore citizens are there in India Under this health Insurance scheme. From 2019 September around 18,059 hospitals enroll and over 4,406,461 beneficiaries were admit. Over 10 crore e-cards are issue under the scheme.
Old name of scheme was The ABY -National Health Projection Scheme and now named as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. This scheme is to make secondary and tertiary healthcare completely cashless for economically weaker section of society. Under this scheme beneficiaries get an e-card which can be use to get services at an enroll (private or public) hospital in all over country for cashless treatment.
Coverage of this scheme includes expenses of 3 days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days of post-hospitalization.
Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY): Eligibility
This scheme aims to provide healthcare to more than 10 crore economical weaker families. Health Insurance of this scheme covers 5 lakh rupees per family. Total ten crore families gets benefit out of it eight crore are in rural areas and 2.33 crore families are from urban areas. Distributed into small units, means this scheme aims to cater up to 50 crore individual beneficiaries.
Though this scheme have some eligibility by which it picks who can get health cover benefits. while in rural areas the list of beneficiaries are based on lack of housing meagre income etc. On the other hand list of urban areas are based on occupation.
PMJAY Health Coverage: List of diseases covered under the scheme
The scheme PMJAY provide secondary and primary helps by funding up to 5 lakh rupee per family annually. This assistance is approved for daycare procedures and even for pre-existing health condition. Scheme also extends coverage over 1,350 medical packages at both public and private hospitals.

- Anterior spine fixation
- Coronary artery by pass grafting
- Carotid angioplasty with stent
- Double valve replacement
- Laryngopharyngectomy with gastric pull-up
- Pulmonary valve replacement
- Prostate cancer
- Skull base surgery
- Tissue expander for disfigurement following burns
Some of the exclusions under PMJAY are as following:
- Cosmetic related procedure
- Drug rehabilitation programme
- Fertility related procedures
- Individual diagnostics(for evaluation)
- OPD
- Organ transplant
How to apply for Ayushman Bharat Yojana: Application process
There are no as such any particular registration procedure for Ayushman Bharat Yojana. This PMJAY applies to all beneficiaries who are already part of the RSBY scheme and those also who identified by SECC 2011. However, you can definitely check if you are eligible to be a beneficiary of this PMJAY.
Steps to check your eligibility:
- Do visit the official website pmjay.gov.in and click on “Am I Eligible”
- Than Enter your mobile number and CAPTCHA code and click on “Generate OTP”
- Than enter your state and search by your name/ration card number/mobile number /HHD number.
- By this search result you can verify rather your family is covered under PMJAY or not.
How to generate PMJAY patient card:
If you are eligible for PMJAY, you can step up towards getting e-card. Your Ration card or Aadhaar Card will be verified at PMJAU kiosk before issuing e-card. Family identification proofs that can be produced include a government certified list of members, a PM letter and a RSBY card. After this verification, you can get e-card along with a unique AB-PMJAY ID. This ID can be use as proff at any point in future.
